Reduce, Reuse, Refuse Single-Use Plastics
A Larger Purpose
From the Great Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch, to our overflowing landfills, it’s clear we should be using less plastic. According to EcoWatch, enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the Earth four times. From encouraging people to switch to reusable produce and bulk bags and washable, reusable fabric shower curtain liners, to using fully recyclable materials in our Signature Plastic-Free Packaging, we do our part to reduce single-use plastics and promote a lower waste lifestyle.
In August of 2016, our dream to make monthly donations to support eco conscious non-profits that aligns with our mission to make our planet healthier, cleaner and sustainable for many generations to come became a reality.
We encourage you to read more about each of these organizations and decide if they align with your values.
THE RECIPIENTS
- The NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council). We proudly donate a percentage of our sales each month to help fund the various campaigns that the NRDC champions.
The “NRDC works to safeguard the earth—its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. We combine the power of more than two million members and online activists with the expertise of some 500 scientists, lawyers, and policy advocates across the globe to ensure the rights of all people to the air, the water, and the wild."
The NRDC has strength in numbers. It is made of people like us, who are concerned about the changes taking place in our environment. It includes a full staff of scientific experts who present fact-based evidence and legal and political advocates who make sure the voices of concerned global citizens are heard.
For more information about NRDC's environmental campaigns, please go to www.NRDC.org and find out how to get involved. We hope you'll take a moment to take a look at their website and consider supporting them as well.
- GlobalGiving is the first and largest global crowdfunding community that connects vetted nonprofits, donors, and companies in nearly every country around the world."
GlobalGiving makes it possible for you to safely and easily select from vetted, locally-driven organizations around the world, so YOU get to decide EXACTLY where your donation dollars go. They even offer a donation satisfaction guarantee.
For Puerto Rican relief efforts, we have chosen to support Red de Fundaciones de Puerto Rico. They focus "on the poorest communities in coastal and rural areas, and in the offshore islands of Vieques and Culebra. A part of the program involves clearing roads, preparing meals, distributing cash and medicines, and connecting people with needed services."
- Loggerhead Marinelife Center is one of Florida’s most unique nonprofit cultural destinations focused on ocean and sea turtle conservation.
Each year the LMC hospital team and volunteers treat nearly 100 sea turtles and 1,000 hatchlings at our ocean-side facility. We have selected LMC as the recipient of a percentage of all sales of our Zero Waste Plastic-Free Dish Sponge & Scrubber Set and our GOTS Organic Cotton Mesh and Mesh & Muslin Reusable Produce Bags, PLUS $1 per t-shirt sold from our graphic t-shirt brand We Can Beat Plastic Pollution. Shop our selection of graphic tees, long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies and give back to a great organization! Or donate directly to LMC on their website.
- Tybee Clean Beach Volunteers are our hometown heroes. They are a grassroots organization that relies on volunteers to regularly sweep the beaches of Tybee Island, Georgia free of litter.
Tybee Clean Beach, aka Fight Dirty Tybee, also works closely with the City of Tybee to pass legislation that directly pertains to litter and single-use plastics, such as banning cigarettes on the beaches, banning plastic or styrofoam to-go-ware and straws at local restaurants and banning plastic grocery bags. They do a brilliant job of educating the public about the effects of disposable plastics on our environment and they provide suggestions for reusable options.
